Continuous Drum-Mix Plants
Plants where aggregate is dried and mixed with bitumen in one drum and discharged continuously to a storage silo. Lower energy per tonne on long single-recipe runs, with less recipe flexibility.
Features
- Drying and mixing in one vessel removes the hot elevator, hot screen and tower, which lowers capital cost and plant height.
- Aggregate is proportioned by belt weigher before the drum, so proportioning accuracy depends on calibrated continuous weighing rather than batch weighing.
- Recycled asphalt is usually introduced part-way along the drum, away from the burner flame, to avoid burning the bitumen already in it.
- Continuous operation suits a single recipe over a long run; every recipe change costs transitional material.
- Output is buffered in a storage silo, so load-out can continue after the drum stops.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rated output | 100 - 320 | t/h | Sized against the paving train and haul distance. |
| Storage silo capacity | 60 - 300 | t | Buffers load-out from production and allows night despatch. |
