Parallel-capable hire generator set
A mobile set with a synchronising controller, so two or more machines can share one load or be added as demand grows. Used where the peak is short and the base load is small.
Features
- Synchronising lets a site start on one machine and add a second for the peak, instead of running one oversized set at light load all month.
- Light-load running glazes bores, so splitting a variable load across parallel sets extends engine life as well as saving fuel.
- Sets must match in voltage, frequency and regulation characteristic; the controller closes the breaker only when phase angle is inside its window.
- Load sharing is either by droop, which is simple and slightly imprecise, or isochronous, which holds frequency exactly and needs a communications link.
- A single set failing should shed rather than trip the group, so the protection settings are part of the commissioning, not the delivery.
