Mobile Generators

Hybrid battery and generator power unit

A battery pack with an inverter and a small generating set that starts only to recharge it. Chosen where the base load is tiny, the peak is occasional, and idling a diesel set all night is not acceptable.

Features

  • The battery carries the base load silently and the engine runs only in charging windows, which typically cuts fuel use by 60 to 80 % against a continuously running set.
  • Because the engine only ever runs at high load while charging, it avoids the light-load glazing that kills conventionally run standby sets.
  • Engine start is triggered by battery state of charge, so the controller's set points decide fuel use more than the engine specification does.
  • Peak output is limited by the inverter, not the battery, and a motor start has to sit inside the inverter's short-term rating.
  • Cold ambient reduces usable battery capacity, so run-time claims need a stated temperature beside them.
  • Engine hours and battery cycles are separate counters and diverge quickly — a low-hours hybrid can still have a tired pack.

Specifications

Figure Typical range Unit Why it matters
Continuous inverter output 10 - 60 kVA The real limit on what can run at once.
Battery capacity 20 - 120 kWh Sets how long the engine can stay off.
Silent run time at 25 % load 8 - 24 h The figure a night consent depends on.
Engine run hours per 24 h 2 - 5 h Drives both fuel cost and service interval.
