Lithium hybrid light tower
A hybrid tower with a lithium pack, which tolerates partial charging and deep discharge and therefore takes the fullest advantage of short charging windows. The dearer unit to buy and usually the cheaper one to own.
Features
- Lithium packs can be routinely cycled deep without the capacity loss a lead-acid pack suffers, so the usable capacity is close to the rated capacity.
- Charge acceptance is high, so the engine charges the pack in a shorter window and spends fewer hours running.
- A battery management system reports cell state and will isolate the pack on fault, which is what makes deep cycling safe.
- Pack weight is lower than the lead-acid equivalent for the same capacity, which matters on a towed unit's axle loading.
- Transport of larger lithium packs is subject to dangerous-goods rules for carriage, which affects how the unit is shipped.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery capacity | 10 - 30 | kWh | Sets silent run time directly. |
| Usable capacity | 90 - 95 | % | Lithium gives nearly all of its rating; lead-acid does not. |
| Silent run time | 16 - 30 | h | Whether the whole shift is engine-off. |
| Charge window per 24 h | 2 - 3 | h | The engine hours actually accumulated. |
