HDD Drill Pipe and Subs
Drill pipe with bend-tolerant connections, plus subs and saver subs for directional work. The pipe has to bend repeatedly under torque and pull without fatiguing.
Features
- Pipe is selected for fatigue life under repeated bending, which is a different requirement from vertical drill pipe.
- Minimum bend radius of the pipe has to be greater than the tightest radius in the design bore path.
- Tool joint upsets are designed to be flush enough to pass through the bore without hanging up.
- Saver subs take the thread wear that would otherwise fall on the rig spindle.
- Pipe is life-tracked by bores drilled and by recorded bend history, and retired on that record.
