Rock Support and Bolting Systems
Plates, Washers and Mesh
Domed and flat bearing plates, washers, straps, weld mesh and chain link that spread bolt load and retain loose rock between bolts. The surface support half of any bolting pattern.
Features
- Bearing plates spread the concentrated bolt load into the rock surface, which is what stops the bolt pulling through.
- Domed plates deform to accommodate an off-axis bolt, which is common in practice and awkward with a flat plate.
- Weld mesh retains loose rock between bolts and is the element that makes a pattern function as a system.
- Mesh aperture and wire diameter are set from the expected block size, not chosen for convenience.
- Straps and W-straps link bolts along a line and are used where a discrete structure has to be held.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plate size and thickness | 150 x 150 x 8 | mm | Sets the load spread into the rock surface. |
| Plate type | flat / domed | Domed plates tolerate off-axis bolts, which is the normal case. | |
| Mesh aperture | 75 x 75 / 100 x 100 | mm | Set from the expected loose block size. |
| Mesh wire diameter | 4,0 - 6,0 | mm | Sets the load the mesh can retain between bolts. |
| Corrosion protection | bare / galvanised | Selected from ground water chemistry and service life. |
