Features
- Crown wheel and pinion are supplied as a lapped pair and are never mixed between sets.
- Ratio is read from the axle plate or counted on the removed parts, because one chassis type is built with several ratios.
- Hub reduction axles carry their own gear sets and oil specification, both different from single-reduction axles in the same vehicle family.
- Differential lock actuators and sensors are checked with the gear set, since a partially engaged lock destroys the crown wheel.
- Axle breathers are inspected at every oil change, as a blocked breather pressurises the axle and pushes oil past the hub seals.
