Vertical Mast Light Towers

Diesel vertical mast light tower

A self-contained diesel vertical-mast tower, the usual fleet unit for highway and rail works. Bought in quantity, so transport density and set-up time dominate the specification.

Features

  • Fleet economics are decided by units per load and by how long one operative takes to deploy each one, not by the unit price.
  • A single-cylinder engine on an LED load gives run times long enough that a week of possessions needs no fuel visit.
  • Winch-raised telescopic masts have fewer pinch points than a folding mast, which shows up in incident records.
  • Because the units nest, a consistent stowed height across the fleet matters more than the lowest possible height on one model.
  • Interlocked outriggers stop the mast being raised on an unstabilised chassis, which is the failure mode these towers are known for.

Specifications

Figure Typical range Unit Why it matters
Total luminous flux 120 000 - 320 000 lm Output per unit, and therefore units per job.
Run time per fill 80 - 200 h Fuel visits per week for the fleet.
Stowed height 2 100 - 2 400 mm Must be consistent across a nesting fleet.
Chassis width 1 100 - 1 400 mm Fits or does not fit a lane closure.
Deployment time, one operative 3 - 6 min Multiplied across a fleet, this is the labour cost.
