Submersible Pumps

High-head submersible pump

A multi-stage or high-speed submersible built to lift water a long way vertically rather than to move a lot of it. For deep shafts, tunnel inverts and lifting to an elevated outfall.

Features

  • Multi-stage impellers add head rather than flow, so these units are compared on head first and flow second.
  • Head requirement includes the vertical lift plus friction in a long rising main, and the friction term is often the larger of the two.
  • Clean water duty is normal — high-head stages are intolerant of grit and will wear rapidly if solids are present.
  • Discharge pressure can be high enough that hose rating and coupling type matter as much as size.
  • Starting against a full rising main is a heavy duty, so a non-return valve and a soft start extend life materially.

Specifications

Figure Typical range Unit Why it matters
Maximum total head 40 - 120 m The reason for choosing this pump type.
Maximum flow 10 - 60 m³/h Secondary to head on this duty.
Number of stages 2 - 8 Each stage adds head, not flow.
Maximum solids size 2 - 8 mm These are clean-water pumps; grit destroys them.
Discharge pressure rating 6 - 14 bar Hose and couplings must match it.
