Trench Rammers
Upright percussion rammers for cohesive and mixed backfill in narrow trenches and around structures. They put energy in as impact rather than vibration, which is what works in clay.
Features
- Shoe widths of roughly 150 to 330 mm let the machine work between a pipe and a trench wall.
- Impact energy per blow, rather than operating weight, is the figure that predicts performance in cohesive soil.
- Jumping frequency sets travel speed along the trench and therefore output per hour.
- Four-stroke petrol engines are now usual; two-stroke units require fuel mixing and put more exhaust into a confined trench.
- The bellows and the crankcase oil level are the two service points that decide whether the machine survives a season.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating weight | 60 - 85 | kg | Sets both energy and whether the machine can be handled into a trench. |
| Shoe width | 150 - 330 | mm | Must fit the trench and the clearance around the pipe. |
| Impact energy | 40 - 90 | J | The determining figure in cohesive backfill. |
| Jumping frequency | 600 - 700 | 1/min | Sets travel speed and output along the trench. |
