Features
- Heads are supplied bare, part-assembled or complete with valves and springs, depending on what the workshop can machine.
- Valve recession and seat condition are measured before a head is reused, because a seat past its limit will burn again quickly.
- Valve guide clearance drives oil consumption and stem wear, and is checked whenever the head is stripped.
- Head bolts on most modern engines are torque-to-yield and are replaced rather than reused.
- Camshaft and rocker gear are inspected with the valve train, since one worn lobe takes its follower with it.
