Tandem and Custom-Built Cylinders
Two pistons on one rod where force is needed but bore is limited, and cylinders built to a drawing or to a sample when the original is no longer available.
Features
- A tandem arrangement roughly doubles force for a given bore by adding a second pressure area, at the cost of overall length.
- Built-to-sample work starts from the old cylinder and its pins, so the mountings reproduce rather than approximate the original.
- Material, plating and seal choice can be upgraded during a custom build for a machine that keeps failing in one particular way.
- Lead time on a built cylinder depends on barrel and rod availability rather than on machining.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Configuration | tandem, 2 pistons on one rod | describes how force is produced | |
| Bore x rod x stroke | 80 / 80 x 45 x 500 | mm | the identifying dimensions for the build |
| Overall length extended | 1 720 | mm | tandem units are long and clearance has to be checked |
| Sample supplied | yes, complete with pins | a sample removes most of the measurement risk |
