Cylinders

Telescopic Cylinders

Multi-stage cylinders that reach a long stroke from a short closed length, used on tipper bodies, skip gear and platform lifts where there is no room for a single-stage ram.

Features

  • Stages extend in sequence from largest to smallest, so force falls and speed rises as each stage takes over. A body that stalls part-way through the tip is usually a stage pressure question.
  • Closed length is the governing dimension under a tipping body, and it is fixed by stage count rather than by chosen stroke.
  • Front-mount, under-body and double-acting arrangements are not interchangeable, and each has its own trunnion and pin geometry.
  • Seal replacement means stripping stages in order, which is why a workshop rebuild is usually more economical than a roadside attempt.
  • Overloading a partly extended telescopic cylinder sideways bends the smallest stage first, and a bent stage cannot be rebuilt.

Specifications

Figure Typical range Unit Why it matters
Stages 3 links closed length to extended reach
Closed length 1 450 mm the dimension that has to fit the chassis
Extended length 3 900 mm sets the tipping angle achieved
First-stage bore 146 mm governs initial breakout force at the start of the tip
Working pressure 190 bar compared with the tipping valve relief setting
