Smaller sets and connection equipment for vessels alongside, where the harbour load is a fraction of the sea load and running a main set would waste fuel and hours.
Features
- Sized on the alongside load only, which is usually hotel services, battery charging and occasional deck machinery.
- Avoids running a large main set at light load, which is where wet stacking and bore glazing start.
- Shore connection equipment lets the vessel take supply from the quay where that is available, and the changeover has to be interlocked.
- Noise limits alongside are often stricter than at sea because the vessel is next to people, so a sound shield is usual.
- Running hours alongside accumulate quickly, and the maintenance plan has to count them the same as sea hours.
