Gearboxes & Shaft Lines

Down-Angle and V-Drive Gearboxes

Gearboxes with an angled or reversed output that let the engine sit level, further aft, or further forward than a straight shaft line would allow.

Features

  • A down-angle output lets the engine sit level in the hull while the shaft leaves at the required angle, which keeps the sump and the mounts in a sensible attitude.
  • V-drive arrangements place the engine aft of the gearbox output, freeing cabin or cargo space forward.
  • Output angle is a fixed property of the box and cannot be adjusted on installation, so it is confirmed against the hull drawing.
  • Engine mounting height and the bed design follow from the box, which is why the two are chosen together.
  • Access for oil changes and for the output coupling is worth checking on the drawing, because these arrangements are often tight.
