- Injectors are supplied as a calibrated matched set, because an unmatched set runs the cylinders unevenly and shows up as vibration and smoke.
- Injection pump work is done on a test bench and the delivery figures issued with the pump, so the engine can be timed properly on refitting.
- Fuel filtration and water separation are reviewed with any injection work, since contaminated fuel is the cause in most cases.
- High-pressure pipes are replaced rather than reused after removal on many engines, and the guidance for the specific build applies.
- Exchange units shorten downtime where the vessel has a schedule to keep.
