Pre-Installation Survey
A measured survey of the engine space, bed, shaft line, tanks, exhaust route and access, producing the constraints that engine selection then has to work inside.
Features
- Everything is measured rather than taken from the vessel's original drawings, which are frequently out of date after earlier work.
- The route the engine must travel into the hull is recorded, since it sometimes rules out an otherwise suitable engine.
- Tank, exhaust and ventilation capacities are assessed against what a new engine will need, not against what the old one used.
- Findings are issued as a written constraint list that the selection and the quotation both refer to.
- Where the survey shows the vessel needs structural work, that is stated before an engine is ordered rather than discovered at the yard.
