Automatic and Powershift Transmission Fluid
Fluids for torque-converter and powershift transmissions in loaders, dumpers, graders and trucks, where clutch friction behaviour is part of the specification.
Features
- Friction characteristics are matched to the clutch plate material, which is why substituting a fluid of the right viscosity can still cause slip or harsh shifts.
- Oxidation stability matters because a powershift transmission runs hot and the fill stays in for a long interval.
- Foam control keeps the converter filling properly; a foaming fluid shows up as slow response under load.
- Colour and smell are not specifications, and a fluid should be identified from its label and its approval class only.
- Where a machine's original class is obsolete, we will say which current class supersedes it rather than offer a nearest guess.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Viscosity at 40 degrees C | 33 - 42 | mm2/s | converter fill and pump behaviour depend on it |
| Viscosity at 100 degrees C | 7.5 | mm2/s | what the clutches see at working temperature |
| Fill volume | 18 - 60 | l | converter and cooler volumes make the total larger than expected |
| Filter changed with fill | yes | a new fill through an old filter is a short-lived improvement |
