Gas Engine Oil
Oils for spark-ignited gas engines in generating sets and combined heat and power units, where ash content is tuned to valve seat protection rather than to filters.
Features
- Ash level is chosen for the gas quality and the engine builder's requirement; too little accelerates valve recession, too much causes deposits.
- Oxidation and nitration resistance matter more than soot handling, because gas combustion produces almost no soot.
- Landfill and biogas duty needs a different formulation again, since the gas carries contaminants that attack the oil.
- Oil condition is monitored on hours and on sampling, and a gas engine in continuous service will consume oil steadily by design.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Viscosity grade | 40 | most gas engines run a monograde fill | |
| Ash level | low / medium ash | matched to the builder's valve seat requirement | |
| Gas type | natural gas / biogas / landfill gas | contaminated gas needs a different additive system | |
| Oil consumption allowance | 0.1 - 0.4 | g/kWh | sets top-up volumes and storage for continuous sets |
