Transmission, Axle & Gear Oils
Industrial Gear Oil
Oils for enclosed industrial gear drives on crushers, conveyors, mixers and mill drives, in the heavier viscosity grades those drives run.
Features
- Viscosity is chosen from the gear's pitch line velocity and operating temperature rather than from the size of the gearbox.
- Micro-pitting performance matters on case-hardened gears under high load, and it is not implied by the extreme-pressure rating.
- Synthetic grades extend drain intervals and improve cold starting on outdoor drives, at a higher first cost.
- Water contamination is common on outdoor drives, so water separation and rust protection are practical selection criteria.
- Sampling on a fixed schedule is the only way to manage a sealed drive that nobody opens between overhauls.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Viscosity grade at 40 degrees C | 150 / 220 / 320 / 460 | mm2/s | the primary selection figure for enclosed drives |
| Base oil | mineral / synthetic | drain interval and cold-start behaviour | |
| Micro-pitting performance | high load stage rating | protects case-hardened teeth under high contact stress | |
| Fill volume | 25 - 600 | l | large drives make a change a planned operation |
| Operating temperature | 60 - 95 | degrees C | the temperature the grade has to be right at |
