Transmission, Axle & Gear Oils
Manual Gearbox and Axle Oil
Extreme-pressure oils for manual gearboxes, differentials, hubs and final drives, in the grades a mixed truck and plant fleet needs.
Features
- Hypoid differentials need the extreme-pressure additive level; a plain gear oil will not survive the sliding contact in a hypoid tooth form.
- Synchromesh gearboxes can be damaged by an aggressive extreme-pressure oil, so gearbox and axle often take different oils on the same vehicle.
- Wide-span grades such as 75W-140 suit machines that see both cold starts and high hub temperatures.
- Limited-slip units need the friction-modified version, and the plain version causes judder on turns.
- Hub and final drive volumes are small, and overfilling pushes oil past the seal onto the brake.
Specifications
| Figure | Typical range | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Viscosity grade | 80W-90 / 85W-140 | covers cold shift quality and hot film strength | |
| Gear duty | hypoid / spiral bevel / worm | worm drives with bronze wheels must avoid aggressive EP oils | |
| Limited-slip modifier | required / not required | missing it causes judder; adding it where unwanted reduces lock-up | |
| Fill volume | 2.5 - 22 | l | small volumes are easy to overfill |
